Grassmere Construction Ltd. is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for its employees and visitors to its facilities and jobsites. Our Health & Safety Program is a top priority for the company and the success of the program depends on the personal commitment of all.

Grassmere is responsible for leading and ensuring safe operations through maintaining their offices, shop, jobsites and equipment in a safe working condition; providing proper training; and ensuring necessary personal protective equipment is used. We use the best available management tools in a constructive and aggressive program to identify and control all serious hazards to health, life and property. The company provides information to employees about workplace safety and health issues through regular internal communication channels such as supervisor-employee meetings, bulletin board postings, Health & Safety Committee minutes, and other written communications.

Employees are responsible for following safe practices and procedures; to be mindful of the safety of others; reporting unsafe conditions and practices to their supervisor; and ensuring they use the necessary personal protective equipment required.

Employee involvement in the Joint Workplace Health & Safety Committee is an essential component of our program. This committee analyzes, discusses, investigates and makes recommendations to management on health and safety concerns. Management will follow up and implement recommendations where feasible and take an active role in the committee activities as an equal partner.

Grassmere’s has taken its H&S commitment to a higher standard by hiring a H&S Coordinator who’s sole responsibility is ensure all elements of safety are addressed.  Grassmere has been a leader in the H&S environment by being one of the first companies to join and participate in the OGCA’s H&S Veterans Group and have continued its role in the field by enrolling in the newly designed WSIB Accreditation test pilot program.

All sub-contractors and their employees, as well as site visitors, must be in compliance with our Occupational Health and Safety Program standards.
